Blaise Birtles (Leser 1) has a gift for creating big breakbeats paired with seemingly unstable sonic textures in a way that is both natural and comprehensive to the listener.
Although Blaise's interpretation of big beat music does have melodic content, it is more focused on exploring the scape of rhythm, groove and the endless timbral qualities provided by today's digital technology. Blaise is driven to create music that is energetic and excites the senses and is less concerned with creating an emotional response.
Growing up in the late 80s / 90s, Blaise’s love affair with sound experimenting began with testing out the tone bank of the next door neighbours Casio keyboard. This continued on through his school years when he would get in trouble for fishing through the keyboard tones rather than playing the allocated songs. Even though he was too young to experience the dance music culture, Leser 1 found his first musical passion came from techno and rave music. This lead to using computer programs to manipulate sound samples. Eventually he discovered digital audio workstations and began producing crude tracks. Blaise has since then set up a home studio, and began producing high quality big beat tracks.
Leser continually develops and establishes his musical sound. He is always experimenting with new and different influences, including many electronic dance music styles as well as some of older styles of music such as soul, funk and rock and most recently heavy metal. To date, Leser’s signed EP releases include one under the Brazilian breakbeat label, Anarchy in the Funk; and one with all-styles label, Speedsound; a joined-single release on the WeSpin record label, along side future jungle producers Digital Thought, entitled We Worship Beats; and recently his own self released EP.
In the coming months Blaise plans to keep pushing his underground sound. His main goal is to spread his energetic music to as wide an audience as possible, hoping to give to others the same joy he has found himself through this emerging style of music.
